COMPOSING & ARRANGING

Patrick is an experienced composer in a variety of styles and genres, notably jazz and choral music, with a particular specialism in music for schools and young people. He composed and arranged over 60 charts for the HWMC Big Band, and has also written a great deal for choirs - both SATB and SSA - over the years. He is confident in almost any style, and is available for commissions. He is one of the official arrangers for Glee Club UK and has recently been appointed Composer-in-Residence for Fourways Theatre Company and Chiltern Shakespeare Company.

Since the publication of his ‘Sporting Anthems’ collection (Choral Basics Series, Faber Music 2006) Patrick has been much in demand as a choral arranger for various vocal combinations, including SATB, SSA and barbershop. Additional choral arrangements include By the Rivers of Babylon/ Deep Peace (Banks Music); Help/Something Stupid/ End of the World (Music Sales)

However, much of his arranging has been written in the jazz idiom, with more than 60 works for Big Band (including vocal charts) and smaller groups. He has worked with a number of national ensembles, notably the National Youth Jazz Orchestra who recorded his arrangement of Gershwin’s ‘How Long Has This Been Going On?’ with renowned trombonist Mark Nightingale as soloist (on ‘By George, it’s NYJO).

Patrick has also written for other ensembles such as the Jazz-a-Belles saxophone quartet, and has completed commissions for the Royal Borough Youth Opera, the Chiltern Shakespeare Company, Windsor Boys’ School and the Polka Dots female vocal trio. He was commissioned to arrange an African Welcome song to open ‘Echoes 2013’, a performance by Bucks County Primary Schools, and he also created various massed arrangements for the Bucks Music Trust’s Royal Albert Hall Gala Concerts.

2015 saw the creation and production of Patrick’s first original musical ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, written with lyricist Victoria Davis and based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale.

Patrick’s most recent venture is the ‘Harmony Valley’ project, a package designed to introduce the various instruments of the orchestra and band to very young children. Created with Elaine Roberts, Patrick composed all of the original music for this venture and oversaw all of the live recordings as well. The package is currently being piloted in primary schools across Buckinghamshire.

Please contact Patrick to request samples of his work - some recordings are available. He is also keen to discuss any further commissions, tailor-made to your exact requirements.
